Like many of you, I've been on a perpetual quest for the perfect pair of glasses. πβ¨π°
Like many of you, I've been on a perpetual quest for the perfect pair of glasses that don't break the bank. My old frames were showing their age by early 2024, scratched and a bit bent out of shape, making me feel less than polished during video calls. More importantly, I really wanted to try a more distinctive style β something vintage yet modern, perhaps a half-frame, to complement my face shape. I'd heard whispers about online retailers offering competitive prices, but I was always hesitant. Could an online purchase really deliver on quality and fit without an in-person try-on? The thought of spending good money only to receive something ill-fitting or flimsy was a constant worry. But the sheer variety and the promise of unique designs kept pulling me in.
My search led me down countless rabbit holes of online optical shops. I spent hours comparing prices, reading reviews, and using virtual try-on tools. What really caught my eye was Cinily Eyewear's collection of unique frames, particularly their Cinily Vintage Acetate Round Glasses. The half-frame design and the vibrant acetate options seemed to offer exactly the blend of retro charm and contemporary flair I was looking for. The deciding factor, beyond the appealing aesthetics, was the price point. It felt like a low-risk way to dip my toes into the online glasses world. However, as I navigated their site, some red flags started to emerge. Iβd seen comments from other shoppers, like Vinnie M, who experienced tracking issues even with express shipping. Another reviewer, Tom Dieckman, echoed concerns about non-responsive customer service regarding returns, highlighting a "robot chat session that lead to circular frustration." These comments made me a bit nervous, especially concerning potential issues with my prescription. I even considered paying for express shipping to get them faster, but a particularly vivid review from Denise LeFrancois, stating, "Just so you know, don't bother paying for the faster shipping because you still will have to wait a few weeks to get your glasses. So save yourself that money as it will only get your glasses to you in about 2 days sooner. Not worth that money," convinced me to stick with standard shipping. I just hoped for the best.
When the package finally arrived in late 2024, after what felt like an eternity (and certainly more than just "a few days sooner" for standard shipping), I approached the unboxing with a mix of excitement and trepidation. The packaging was simple but secure, nothing overly fancy, but certainly protective. As I lifted the Cinily Vintage Acetate Round Glasses out of their case, I was immediately struck by the quality. The acetate felt sturdy and surprisingly premium in my hands, with a pleasant, smooth finish. The hinges felt robust, unlike the flimsy ones I'd encountered on other budget frames. The frames looked almost identical to the virtual image on the website, which was a pleasant surprise, as Michael Jesenick also noted in their review, saying they were "nearly identical to the virtual image shown. Very pleased with my purchase." My initial impression was overwhelmingly positive; the frames themselves certainly exceeded my low-to-moderate expectations.
Now for the real test: putting them on. The fit was good, and my vision through the lenses was remarkably clear. I paid for the water and fingerprint protection coating, and it's been an absolute game-changer β smudges are minimal, and cleaning is a breeze. As Denise LeFrancois put it, "I didn't really expect too much quality in the actual glasses but I was proven wrong! I am happy to report that they sell quality frames and the lenses are superior to what I have gotten at Lens Crafters! And that is saying a lot! I did pay for the water and fingerprint protection coating and it has proven to be a wise choice!" I wholeheartedly agree. The clarity of the lenses truly rivals those from much more expensive opticians. However, my journey wasn't entirely smooth. I did have a minor adjustment needed for the nose pads, and that's where the frustration began. Trying to reach their customer service was indeed a nightmare. Like Denise, "I tried in vain to leave a review on the website, where my glasses are listed, but that doesn't work. So after about a 10 minute search I finally am able to leave a review! The customer service is the among the worst I have ever experienced." The email responses were slow, and the chat feature often felt like talking to a bot. It's truly a shame, as the product itself is fantastic. I also learned from Steve Greenbaum's review about the importance of Pupil Distance (PD) and how Cinily Eyewear might assume a value if not provided, leading to potential issues, especially for children. Luckily, I had mine, but itβs a crucial detail for buyers to be aware of. Regarding returns, there was conflicting information. Denise clarified, "Finally, I also read in other review that they only accept ONE glass for return. THIS IS NOT TRUE. I have sent back 3 pairs so far and may not be done until I find the perfect pair for my face. THEY DO REFUND YOUR MONEY ON ALL GLASSES SENT IN FOR RETURN! Just be reasonable and return them within 14 days." This was reassuring to know, though I thankfully didn't need to use the policy.
Overall, my experience with Cinily Eyewear for my Cinily Vintage Acetate Round Glasses has been a mixed bag, yet I lean towards a positive recommendation. The product quality, from the frames to the lenses and coatings, is genuinely impressive and offers incredible value for the price. They've become my go-to everyday glasses, fulfilling my desire for a stylish, comfortable, and clear vision solution. However, the customer service experience is undeniably frustrating, as highlighted by multiple reviewers, including Denise, who lamented, "I would have given them a 5 star but the worst ever customer service brings it down to a 3 star. What a shame. They have such a great opportunity to sweep the market for online glasses but they failed and it's all due to NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!" If you're someone who is self-reliant, knows your precise prescription details (including PD), and prioritizes product quality and affordability over seamless customer support, then Cinily Eyewear could be a fantastic option for you. Just be prepared to navigate their digital channels with patience if any issues arise.
